My 7 year old Smeg DWF44SS has just started to malfunction. At the start of the programme the unit is failing to fill. The electrics seem to be working, the timer unit works, the drain/supply pipes aren’t kinked or blocked, there isn’t a leak, the filter on the Aquastop unit is clear, the filters and jets are all clean. Any suggestions?

Presumably the inlet valve has failed – this is integral with the Aquastop hose and is therefore rather pricey. If you have a test meter, pick up the leads coming out of the sheathing and do a resistance test. You’re looking for approx 3.5kOhms when the circuit is split.

    Power off first, of course.

Thanks, that was really useful – I followed your suggestion and got a resistance reading of 1.96k ohms on the circuit. What does that suggest?
