    Hi,
my old Smeg is starting to do strange things. During the rinse phase on program 5 (normal daily wash) the machine just stops – now happened twice. I opened the door… the dishes were hot and there was water in the bottom of the dishwasher but I assume this is normal.

When the machine stops the lights 2,3,4 remain lit but nothing in the instruction book to explain what this means. After I press the start button, and after a 10/15 secs delay it starts up again and completes the full cycle to end OK.

Any ideas what is causing this, and is it a sign of a component needing replaced soon? Thanks in advance

Despite the selector switch, this is still a “5 LED” machine – if there is a fault, they should indicate it in a pattern on the LED display. Yours does not conform to any recognised pattern, so a read of THIS may clarify things.

Stay safe, power off if investigating.

Yes thanks, I checked that link about other error codes, but I don’t think it applies to me for this fault.

The machine is now stopping during every rinse cycle. It cut’s out on program 5 and now 6.

When it operates normally the 1st light flashes, then 2nd, then 3rd, then 4 th as it goes through the different phases and program ends. When it stops it always happens during the 3rd rinse phase and then no lights flash – it looks like it is in the condition before a cycle is started when the lights are on depending on what program is selected.

When it stops I simply press start button and hold until I hear 2 beeps, then after short pause it goes OK again and completes cycle. Very strange 😕

Re: Smeg DWF64SSE Stopping Mid Rinse

Third rinse is when the dispenser operates for the second time, to dispense rinse aid. As stated in the article, the solenoid on the dispenser can cause some weird things to happen.

HI Penguin, the solenoid was replaced 10 months ago and fixed another fault on my machine when it refused to start at all, I’m surprised it going again so soon, maybe the PCB is starting to go? Are these expensive and would they be a DIY job? ❓

Re: Smeg DWF64SSE Stopping Mid Rinse

I thought I would have another go at trying to find out the fault with my dishwasher.

Initially the problem was it just stopped during the rinse while the 3rd light was flashing towards the end of the cycle.

When the problem started last June it stopped once per wash and simply pressing the start button once restarted the machine and it would finish to the end OK.

Recently the machine has been stopping more randomly mid cycle, sometimes earlier in the cycle when the 2nd light is flashing and the machine is in the cold washing stage. Also sometimes it stops 3 or 4 or 5 during same wash cycle so the frequency of stops is also increasing. In all these cases when I press start button the machine goes gor another while. I also have to force the machine to stop early by pressing the start button and holding down for a few seconds – the machine then jumps to the end of the cycle and starts draining with both 3rd and 4th lights lit.

I did find some info from another user with similar smeg (DF612SE) who says he was able to fix his machine (which appeared to have a very similar fault) by removing right panel and aquavacing a plastic panel that chanels the water all around the machine.

Would this be a typical fix for this problem?

I was contemplating buying a new machine in the sales and have my eye on the Hotpoint FDL570G which I can get for around £225. The dilema I have is should I persever with the 6 year smeg which has given me a few problems and I know they are not cheap to repair or do I buy a new hotpoint?

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Off the top of my head, I have no exact idea what is wrong with your machine, beyond the usual corruption issues.

Whatever you do, do not buy the Hotpoint. Or the Indesit. Or the Ariston versions of the machine. You’ll find lots of new friends and we will laugh at you.

If you are considering replacement and need a stainless finish, buy one of the Bosch/Siemens/NEFF appliances. If white will do, the ISE5 machine (our own) is excellent with a good warranty package.

Thanks penguin for the advice to avoid the hotpoint.

assuming I cany get mine fixed I’ll look at buying a basic Bosch model. The other ones are a bit pricier what with the credit crunch going on 😉

Re: Smeg DWF64SSE Stopping Mid Rinse – Suppressor Fault?

Hi Penguin, just had another read through the forums and came across a guy who had a whirlpool which appears to be a smeg and his problem was the mains RCD was tripping – the problem was a dodgy mains suppressor.

Come to think of it my mains tripped out last week when the dishwasher was running.

This might point to a mains suppresor fault with my machine?
I don’t thinks its the dispenser as I replaced this last year to fix the non starting problem I had.

If its not the supressor it is probably then the PCB which means it is a new machine for me.

But based on what I’ve said do you think it is worth a shot to try the suppressor? If so can you give me the price and I’ll order it from you.

THIS is the one you want. Worth a look first – they usually split open and carbonise, so pretty obvious if it’s on its way out.

Re: Smeg DWF64SSE Stopping Mid Rinse

Hi again could you please confirm the position of the mains suppressor – I had a look in the front door where the pcb board is and the dispenser but cannot see it. Is it round the back where the mains cable feeds in? in which case do I just need to remove the back door or side? Thanks again.

At the back, where the cable comes in. Tip it back and unclip the centre of the base panel to look.

Re: Smeg DWF64SSE Stopping Mid Rinse

I had a look for the mains suppressor at the weekend. Tipped the machine up, removed the black plastic tray on the bottom and had a good look around, but couldn’t see anything that resembled the mains suppressor in the photo.

Apologies for having to come back again but would Penguin45 or anyone else know the exact location. 😕

Re: Smeg DWF64SSE Stopping Mid Rinse

The early version of the mains suppressor was a small grey cylinder taped into the wiring loom at the front left, under the tub. Haven’t seen one for a good few years now.
