Ah yes, once again I have yet another problem with my bloody SMEG dishwasher..

This time it decided to throw a wobbly on boxing day..

Everything works apart from no heat.. Get error code E3..
Water is pumping around nicely and basically it will do a complete cycle but without heating the water.. I tried the stat reset but to no avail.. so is this a stat problem or a heating element thats gone tits up.. Already tried resetting the machine and still no joy…

Dont have a meter to test so any advice would be useful.. i.e. should I replace the stat before trying to replace the element, or could it be more sinister….

An electronic machine would not complete the cycle if heat were not detected, you would get an error code. Therefore, the thermistor in the door is faulty, or the computer board itself. Which one……….

The thermistor is testable and should give a reading in kOhms, but you will need a test meter, otherwise you’re guessing and that is an expensive way of repairing an appliance.

Power off if you are going to do this yourself.

Ok tested the thermistor and its fine.. Had mate mate test the thermostat and he could not get any reading. the red switch seemed a bit dodgy, as in very flimsey.

The main element looks a bit grey/black in colour but the reading was ok.

Im really starting to get miffed with this bloody pile of crap. Last time I used an engineer via this forum, he turned up and tried to turn a very simple capacitor issue into a major “oh it needs a new pump” issue.. Yeah OK..

Anyone with some straight forward advice would be much appreciated.

If the thermostat is in-line withn the heater, it should be closed circuit.
