ParticipantI’ve had a search on the forums and haven’t found an answer for this one, if anyone can help I would be eternally greatful 😀
Three year old Smeg DWI612C was in it’s wash cycle, looks like it had just finished the main wash and was draining when it started beeping with the pump stopping and starting at the same time. I tried powering off and on again to no avail, and it isn’t displaying any of the errors in the manual. When I turn it on this is what it does:
– Power on, after about 3 seconds the selected program light comes on with no other lights on or flashing.
– I shut the door and the machine beeps twice, the pump operates for about a second then stops, then the machine beeps twice again, the pump operates for about a second then stops… repeats this cycle ad infinitum until I turn it off again. The machine does seem to have drained succesfully, I’ve had the filters out and looked at the sump, no obvious blockages etc. Tried the reset procedure detailed elsewhere on these forums and this makes no difference.
Any ideas anyone? 🙁

Just had a bit more of a play and not sure if i managed to get it into some sort of test mode? basically I followed the reset procedure but shut the door rather than powering off, the machine started to fill for a while, then started beeping a bit and the following lights came on:
(from left)
light 2 (delicate cycle) steady on
light 5 (intensive cycle) flashingThe lights remained this way even after a power-cycle, in the end they cleared by following the reset procedure but the original fault remains, ie beepbeep, pump for a second, beepbeep, pump for a second ad infinitum.

Flood protection system has been activated – the machine has overfilled and has either flooded the tray under the machine, or tripped a secondary pneumatic safety shut off system linked to the inlet valve.
I would seriously recommend some pro help with this one. You can try pulling the machine out and tipping it back (Power off!) and seeing if any water runs out of the base. This may reset the system, but may not solve the problem if there is an actual leak. The machine itself is highly complex and a bit of a swine to work on.

Thanks for the advice – i’ve had the machine out, tipped it back and no water came out. I then unscrewed the bottom front cover plate so I could see in the guts of it, and it was dry as a bone.
Any other ideas? If not what (roughly) might we be looking at to get an expert to take a look? I know it’s hard to say without knowing what the problem is but a rough average repair cost would help thanks 🙂

You’ll need to bank on at least an hours work, Mary. Up here in Leeds, I’d charge £45, but rates vary widely – discuss with your chosen engineer at the point of contact is the best way to avoid unpleasant surprises.
You could use the link below to contact one of the UKW engineers in your area.

Penguin
I seem to have a similar problem with the same machine, and have just had someone out who has told me the PCB has gone and needs to be replaced.
Wasn’t convinced he knew what he was talking about, and as I’m in Leeds would be interested in a 2nd opinion if you have the time?
Can you drop me a message?
Cheers – Adrian

l know it is a bit late now, 😀 but this pulsing problem is caused by the coil on the dispenser going open circuit-it upsets the Timer card for some reason.Mal.

Doesn’t even have to go open circuit – it just has to get old, damp and have oxidised terminals. The mains suppressor will do it as well. In fact, there’s an article HERE.

I’ve had exactly the same problem.
I replaced the suppressor – that didn’t help.
I replaced the soap dispenser (part no. 812890063) – that has helped, all wash cycles can now be set and operate fully BUT the soap dispenser won’t open! I’ve disconnected and tested the solenoid (240v) and that operates ok. Can anyone help please?February 18, 2009 at 9:52 pm #209929Penguin45
ParticipantRe: Smeg DWI612C freaking out!
Solenoid is directly switched by the pcb. Assuming continuity from the pcb to the solenoid, the pcb is at fault.

Thanks for the quick reply Penguin45.
I’ll check continuity with PCB.
Congratulations for such a helpful forum.May 3, 2011 at 7:50 pm #209931kevatfuse

Hi Milly / Penguin,
I am having exactly the same problem with mine!
Interesting that there may be a resolution.
Tried the reset procedure, turning power on and pressing the button 4 times quickly, and it gives different results now, the exaust pump runs for 10 seconds then the origional cycling problem re-occurs. Should I power down at some point before shutting the door?
Also This is an old post and both your links dont work anymore. Could you re-find them and post the links back???
I’d be most grateful.
Cheers, Kev
