Hi, I have the Smeg DWI612C and when I select any programme and switch it on it seems fine for the first 3-4 mins then starts to make a low humming noise and everything else stops. There is cold water at the bottom of the dishwasher when I check inside. Any ideas anyone please?

    Many thanks.

If it has filled, the next step should be circulation. The humming noise will be power going to the pump, but it’s not running.

Start/run capacitor may have failed, in which case you’ll need one of THESE. The motor may be seized for a variety of reasons.

Either way, you’re going to have to drag it out and have a look underneath.

    Power off first,

Thank you Penguin45 for your reply and your advice. Not too confident about pulling it out though so will probably call out an engineer. Spoke to a SMEG engineer who said that it looks like the circulator pump had gone and the part was about £180!!! He only switched on the dishwasher and listened to it, never looked at it.

Many thanks again for your help.

In fairness to the engineer it’s FAR more likely to be the pump rather than the start cap but the price difference between the parts is big enough to be worth investigation 😉
