Ok, given up. Checked most threads on this excellent website and although many other people have seen the same problem, I have not found the definitive answer. Also, had 3 engineers around to see this dishwasher and they say ‘buy a new one to expensive to fix’, but none of them can tell me what the problem is. I can not believe I have to buy a new machine its only 2.5 years old. If someone can tell what the first 3 lights flashing with the last 5th light permanent on is and if there is a fix to the problem, I may accept buying a new one or may find an engineer who knows what it is. Help please.

It thinks it’s got a flow meter when it hasn’t. Do the following to clear it.

Switch on and press the programme button 4 times, within 3 seconds. The 1st and 5th lamps should light…….. You may have to do this several times before it works! Assuming that it does, press programme lamp once. LH lamp should go out. Switch off, count to 10, switch on and run the rinse programme only.

    8) Respect Penguin. This worked and now the dishwasher is part of the family again. Where I was going wrong was to pause for the too long after switching the machine on. For reference the others press the programme button 4 times immediately after pressing down the on button, as the button is on its way up. If one of the programme lights light up before you have finish the 4 times you have to start again. Also note SMEG dishwashers and Diplomat dishwashers, just a change in name.

Thanks again, long live Whitegoods forums.

Penguin is a cool customer. I found a slight variation whereby following the x4 press only the right hand light came on. After this pressing the programme button did nothing, however after switching off and waiting 10 seconds normal operation resumed.
