Just thought I’d share my experiences on the above fridge
I bought mine three years ago brand new for £750…and am now facing a repair bill of over £500! The door seal has failed (looking at these forums it would appear to be a well documented problem with the FAB28)as has the thermostat. As the door seal is fused to the door, you have to purchase a whole new door if the seal goes, at a cost of £300.
Smeg have been incredibly unhelpful…saying that they do not have a dis-proportionate problem with door seals (although a quick hunt on the internet seems to tell a different story) and therefore they do not consider it unreasonable for the fridge to have failed within 36 months.
I personally think that a fridge costing a significant amount of money should last slightly longer than that, particularly as it has been well maintained and never moved.
If you are considering buying one, think very carefully about whether or not you are prepared to spend a large amount of money, should you experience the same problems!
If anyone has any ideas as to a similar looking fridge that is a bit more reliable, I’d be more than grateful…as it looks like I’m going to the shops tomorrow!!! 😥
