ParticipantHi
i have a Smeg fridge. Freezer part works fine, the fridge won’t cool though.
ive checked the internal thermostat with ohm meter and it gets a reading.
right hand side compressor is working and feel it doing something.
inside fridge I can here it pushing something through but it’s not cooling.I have a spare thermostat from a different fridge(think it’s universal)
any advice?

Participantneed to check if geting a live to the fridge compressor ..from the fridge state ,usually the black wire .. at bottom of start relay on compressor .. if you are . .if not will be the state ,, if you want to check compressor take relay of compressor and check with ohmeter across the 3 pins ,, should get a reading across the 3 .. if not compressor gone , that test is with power off ,, ie mains

Participantif both compressors are warm to touch .. the fridge one could have lost its compression or lost its refrigerant .. which is not a easy fix these days

ParticipantOk, the there is a reading coming through on the relay.
i left it on all night last night and it is slightly cooler than it was. But not fridge cool!like I say the compressor is running.
could it be the thermostat? Can I bypass the thermostat? Bridge black & blue feeds inside thermostat?

ParticipantUpdate:
ive bypassed the thermostat and the fridge is making a normal fridge noise, but not cooling.
is this likely to be gas?

no hotter than the rest of compressorshort of refrigerant i would say, if the discharge is warm and its coming back ambient sounds like it could be short.
