SMEG FAB32P4 freezer not working

the number on the plate is: S/N 51117 1308 0 (if this helps ??)

the fridge is still working fine, but the freezer is not working at all (even after defrosting). the fridge/freezer is 20 months old. any ideas ??. if it’s the compressor, appx how much ‘should’ these cost to fix, and is it a special smeg part or are compressors generic ??. thanks.

Are there two compressors?
Compressors are generally generic.

i assume so – there are 2 identical looking round black things at the back – one is hot (on the left if you’re facing the back of the unit) and the other is warm – (i did have the freezer unit switched on for 40 mins this morning to see if it had miraculously fixed itself but i turned it off about 10 mins ago). appreciate any advice. thanks

the freezer compressor (the one without the water tray on top ?) was very hot to touch when the freezer unit was switched on; the freezer unit has been off for about 2-3 hours and it’s still warm but seems to be cooling down.
