ParticipantHi, I have a Smeg Fridge Freezer model FAB40PS. (Freezer on top of large fridge).
9 months ago the compressor & evaporator were replaced by an engineer. We were told that the Smeg would now be as good as new. The problem Is that the fridge is not cold (10 degrees), the freezer is working as it should. Inside the fridge water is dropping in via the vent in the top of the fridge, when the fridge temperature is turned down to its lowest setting the fridge light turns off and comes back on when turned up again. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on?
I have spoken to the engineer that did the repairs, he wants to charge me to visit again!
We are getting desperate as we can’t keep food fresh and have binned lots over Christmas.
thanks

KeymasterIt sounds, though I obviously am guessing a bit based on the described symptoms, that it may be the damper that’s fault or sticking. It’s pulling cold air from the freezer to cool the fridge by way of a damper assembly at the back of the fridge, top.
Have you defrosted the unit at all?

ParticipantHi K, yes we have defrosted the fridge freezer for 48 hrs and then switched back on. This hasn’t made any difference. Thank you

KeymasterI’d be looking at the damper then in that case as I suspect that’s your problem.

ParticipantHi K, thank you for your help so far.
I have checked the damper and have seen it work when turning the fridge thermostat down and back up again.
I noticed that when I removed the vent (part number 56547 on the diagram you sent me) at the front top of the fridge it is full of ice. Also when I opened the freezer door I noticed cold air started to come from the vent (I chipped a bit of the ice away) and when I closed the freezer door again it stopped. The fridge is still not cold though.
any ideas?
thank you

KeymasterI’d defrost it completely and restart it, try to work out why there’s ice in there.
