I am trying to locate a replacement freezer door for my SMEG FAB28. Could you please let me know where I can get one from and also how much it will cost.

    Look forward to any help

    Re: Smeg freezer door

    Hi pip.

Could you check inside the fridge please (next to the salad bin most likely) and post the full model and serial numbers please.

There have been various versions of the good old FAB28 and the freezer doors have been modified a couple of times.

    Thanks 😀

    Dave.

    Re: Smeg freezer door

That’s the later version, the evaporator door complete is part number 696133684 at a shocking £91.11 inc VAT 😯

Yes that’s the freezer door inside not the whole main door !

I can order from Smeg for you if required, an email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk please.

    Re: Smeg freezer door

    You must be joking!!!

A Plastic door can’t cost that much!!!! I only need the door not the whole freezer section and I have seen the whole freezer section for £70 odd.

    Re: Smeg freezer door

    I do not jest 😉

That info is straight off of Smeg’s technical and spares DVD.

Original part number was 766133071 at £30.08 inc VAT (a far more reasonable price) but it then says use part number 696133684 at the silly price. Looking further this seems to apply for all the Fab28’s now 🙁

Please visit http://www.smeg-service.co.uk and double check, I’ll be more than pleased if they have reduced the price as I was as shocked as you were.

In the meantime, I’m going to email them as well and check.

    Dave.

Appologies for quoting myself, to confirm:

Smeg Service wrote:It is I’m afraid. The original part was just an outer door assy – not a
complete door the 696133684 is a complete door. They no longer provide
766133071 as a managed part, sorry

    🙁

    Re: Smeg freezer door

I have spoken to Smeg service uk who have pointed me in the direction of Expertcare Appliances on 0870 909 9100, as Smeg service uk don’t deal with refrigeration anymore.

I spoke to Expertcare this morning who have quoted me 2 prices – if I bought the fridge before November 2002 it will cost £39.10 for the door, £2.70 for the catch and £4.95 for the postage = £46.75. If I bought the fridge after November 2002 it will cost me £39.10 for the door (has the catch already attached and £4.95 for the postage = £34.05.

Not sure where they gave your price from!!!!!!

    Re: Smeg freezer door

Hmm, thanks for the info, this thread will be presented to Smeg tommorow.

The only thing I can think of is that Expert still have stock of the earlier part number I mentioned previously which was far cheaper.

Still, it doesn’t depart from the fact that their spares pricing is a mockery.

I’ll feed back any info I get on this as it’s extremely annoying to be honest.

    Regards.

    Re: Smeg freezer door

Right, I’ve got to the bottom of this now and apparently it’s happened quite a few times.

The Fab range of fridges sold under the Smeg brand name are in fact manufacturered by Gorenje in Slovenia.

Apparently Expert are sourcing the spares directly from Gorenje and not from Smeg and undercutting Smeg Service in the UK on refrigeration spares prices in the process, it’s a free market and there is nothing wrong in that.

In fact in many ways it’s good for consumers as the price you pay is better and this is why Smeg direct consumers down this route and no longer supply refrigeration spares directly.

They do however still supply refrigeration spares to their agents (as we are) which is where the vast price difference comes in to play, Smeg are also buying the spares from Gorenje but it appears that the margin is somewhat larger then Expert are applying.

My next job is to cross reference the part numbers and start to buy the spares for these from Gorenje as well, that way I won’t get caught out again 😉

Hopefully that answers the question for you Pip and thanks for the feedback, it’s been a great help.

    Regards.

    Dave.

    dave

you do ISDAL work dont you?

you can cross reference the Gorenje parts if you use the Art number from the Gorenje range of refrigeration and it will cross ref and give you the standard part number

    Re: Smeg freezer door

    This gets more interesting 😉

    Prices from Gorenje:

    Door complete – £23.11
    Catch – £2.50

    Plus a bit of postage.

    😕
