My Smeg KSET Telescopic Cooker Hood just stopped working. When I pulled out the hood, the lights come on but there is no extraction.

Is there anything that I can check or is this a case of either getting an engineer in or buying a new cooker hood?

    Thanks.

    Regards,

    kawan,

I’ll check in the morning for you but generally there are only three or four things to actually fail in a hood, the motor, the lights, the switch/touch panel and a power card if it’s used. Generally they are pretty simple and it’s most likley one of the two latter items that’s failed giving the “dead” fault.

Either Dave or I will get back once we get to the info in the AM.

This is a nice piece of equipment by the looks of it 🙂

Looking at the diagram and only the lights come on, it will most likely be the PCB or sometimes there’s a fuse on them.

As it has twin motors it’s unlikely both of them will have failed.

I think you may be best to call an engineer to have a look to be honest, if you pop your postcode up, one of the UKW guys may be able to assist.

    Dave.

    Postcode is HA0.

What sort of cost am I looking at to get an engineer in? I just need to weigh up the cost of an engineer’s visit against a new replacement.

    Thanks.

The PCB is only about £35, so the repair shouldn’t be too bad.

Capital Repairs on 020 8866 6699 should be able to advise of their labour costs etc.

If you do phone them could you let them know where you got the number please.

    Dave.

Re: Smeg KSET Telescopic Cooker Hood

Capital Repairs came this evening. The guy said it is the starter switch for the Smeg KSET60. As it is late, he couldn’t get hold of the part number and price.

Any idea what it is going to cost me ie. am I going to get a mini heart attack? 😯

Re: Smeg KSET Telescopic Cooker Hood

If, by starter switch they are refering to the switch that is activated by opening the hood, then it’s £10 plus VAT Smeg list price.

I actually thought about the switch yesterday but assumed the lights wouldn’t work if that had failed 😕

    Dave.

Unfortunately, the service didn’t carry through. Was told that somebody will call me on Sat to let me know about price for part. Nobody called. I called on Sat afternoon and was told it’s being sorted and will be told on Monday. Again I called on Monday as nobody at Capital had called me back. Was told engineer is off sick and will be back on Tuesaday (today). Called today and was told engineer would be in later. Called in the afternoon and was told engineer is not in and Spares dept cannot do anything until they have spoken to engineer. Will call again tomorrow to check on progress. 👿
