After communicating with Kenneth (spare parts), I was sent a link and ordered a commutator switch for a Smeg SUK62MFX, having previously ordered a switch from another site, which had too many terminals and had the code 4034/6A. The code on the faulty switch has the code 4034/1A. I have just received the switch I ordered through the link and dismayed to find that it is the same part (4320/6A) and not the 4320/1A part which is in the cooker. I now presume that I can use this switch, which has more terminals than the 4034/1A switch and make sure I use the corresponding numbered terminals leaving the unused ones. I’m concerned that the thermostat block which fits on the back of the switch won’t make the right contact. Any thoughts welcome.

    Re: Smeg oven commutator switch

If it’s the main oven one then it’s this one:

    Upper oven, this one:

Changes to switches is extremely commonplace as explained here:

    http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/spar … n-switches

Hence, you can’t go by images or numbers on parts a lot of the time as they will not match up if there’s been even the slightest of change made.

Where there’s no additional info though the presumption is that it’s terminal number to terminal number for the wiring but do take photos of the old one first so you’ve a record of the wiring positions in case you drop a wire which is good practice anyway and check the wires are sound.

It’s not uncommon for the wiring and tags to become a but loose or dodgy in some way and if they’re in any way a bit iffy you’ll need to sort them or risk having a problem later on.

    K.
