ParticipantHi All,
My oven has been tripping the main RCD when it gets hot, on average about 125 degrees, I have had it apart and as first suggested I changed the element to no avail.
I have since had it out completely and had the back off, it seems that the Fan is the cause, If I disconnect it the RCD holds and as soon as I touch either of the cables on their terminals it trips.
when I do an insulation resistance test I get the following results
Cold 1Mohm
Hot 0MohmMy main question is 1Mohm to me is not high enough for a cold fan?
Also Any ideas, I have stripped down the fan and I can’t see anything wrong or even the slightly bit damaged. Thanks

Cooling fan motor makes sense or the fan initiation stat.
If it’s a plastic cased one, Smeg says it’s obsolete now.
If it’s metal then it’s this one:

And it is noted that they are not interchangeable.
But do keep in mind that there may be other causes.

Hi Apologies,
It is the internal oven fan with the element around it
I am assuming that as this is always on when the oven is in fan mode that there is no stat on this fan?

The main oven fan should kick on as soon as the oven is energised and, if they’re gonna go like that it’ll usually pop the trip straight out the gate.
It’s possible of course that it’s gone that way but, it’s pretty unusual.
But at 125?C or thereabouts, the cooling fan will (or should) kick in on the cooling fan control or initiation stat and if it bangs out when it hits that sort of temp I’d have thought those to be more likely suspects.

Great thanks for your reply, I will investigate more.
If I turn the oven off at the control panel the RCD holds but the cooling fan still overruns for a bit as it should but does not trip the RCD, it only goes again if I try to put the oven into any of the fan assisted modes
Thanks
