Smeg oven function selector

Hi all,

The function selector On my Smeg S10XMF recently broke, bought a new one from ukwhitegoods and noticed when it arrived that it had one extra terminal than my existing one, I wired it up the same as the existing one leaving the additional 9th terminal empty and when I turned the oven back on it tripped the RCD and blew the fuse in the oven plug.

I decided to put the old function selector back in so I could at least use the oven, all be it without being able to switch function but there is now no power to the oven….

Something has obviously blown inside the oven due to my incorrect wiring pattern, what would be the best route for diagnosing this? As far as I’m aware there’s no internal fuse so what else could have blown?

Ive since found out the correct wiring pattern for the new selector

Can I just ask how you knew the selector switch was faulty? And you say it trips electric when you switch it on maybe you have wired switch up wrong there are numbers on the sides of both switches and every wire need to go in the same position as old one e.g p1 to p1

The plastic rod that takes the knob snapped off. The selector itself worked fine but I couldn’t change functions.

I wired the new selector with the same wiring positions as the old one but I have since found out it is a different configuration on the newer switches – you need to skip the fourth terminal

so yes it was incorrect wiring that has caused something to trip, I just don’t know what has tripped

first thing to look for is a thermal cutout probably at the back of the oven. my guess is it power to the switch has gone and that boils down to thermal cut outs or clock
