Smeg oven tripping Circuit breaker

Can anyone please help? We have a smeg double oven – I think the model is a SP9000X (was part of the house when we bought it so documentation is scarce).

The top oven is the problem, if we set it to 180C or above, it heats up as usual but when the thermostat ‘clicks’ (same sound as the bottom oven when it switches on and off) the house circuit breaker gets tripped.

I have been reading some of the other threads and it looks like maybe being a switch of some sort (i have checked the element and it looks fine).

If it is a switch does anyone know where to get a replacement – and how to get into the oven to replace it?

It will be an insulation breakdown on the top oven element. There is a safety cut-out – if tripped it will shut the oven down, but not set the breakers off. The fan oven element is p/no 806890122, an email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk for prices and ordering if you feel confident, click the link below if you’d rather have the job sorted professionally.

Power off if investigating.

Penguin is correct although I have seen a couple of changeover switches also go. Either of the two could be the problem.

If you need an instruction manual that’s not a problem so long as that’s the model number off the rating plate I should be able to email you one in PDF format.
