I have a Smeg Dishwsher model SA 663 X, it has been working fine until today,
I had a small leak in the drain hose which i fixed, but had to move the dishwasher in and out of the space it was in, and now it does not work properly – could be a coincidence.

When you set the dial to no.3 and start it the machine runs the water and sounds to be working but the dial does not move (we had it running for a few hours and it did not appear move) if you then manually move the dial one click it sounds like it is running water and draining but the dial is not moving or only moving a small amount and seems stuck on that part of the cycle,
It doesn’t seem to matter where you start it on the dial it runs the water and drains out but the dial and cycle position do not change,

we have cleaned filters etc but no help,

    can anyone help pls.

Can’t find anything on that model – there is an SA662X with a mechanical timer for the European market.

I would suspect from your description that the flood protection system is operating. If the tray under the machine fills with water, it will operate a polystyrene float, which in turn switches a microswitch which runs the drain pump. This will over-ride any other machine function. Power off, towels down, tip the machine to one side and see if water comes out.

If it does, check that hose repair….

Will Do P45, ( the machine came with the house brand new in Aus)

I took the filter out from the base and then the metal grill also it does have water sitting in it, where would i find the float and sensor?

Another question – when i click the dial around manually it does pump the water in to the machine as i open mid cycle and i can see water flowing out of the jets and appears to be draining quite easily,

My hose repair was good i cut the hose in half in the middle and put larger clear peice of tube over the top of both halves and clamped each side, but i will check it.

Re: Smeg SA 663 X – won’t move through the cycles.

It does look like a very similar machine to the one I found.

The way that these timer driven machine work is that the timer is continuously powered apart from when the machine is heating. Timer stops, heater comes on, thermostat completes the circuit and restarts the timer. If you run the Pre-wash (might be Soak on a SMEG), there is no heat so an application of No 1 ear should let you hear the timer ticking away to itself.

Many SMEG machine have a manual safety stat undeneath – if it trips, the timer should advance itself to a heat position and stop, waiting for the temperature to rise – which, because the safety has gone out of circuit, it never does. However, manually advancing the timer should let the timer run on to the next heat position – usually second rinse. If this is what it’s doing, get the base tray out, look for the little red button and press it.

It is possible that the motor powering the timer has failed, but if it was working before you worked on the machine a failure there seems a little unlikely.

“If this is what it’s doing, get the base tray out, look for the little red button and press it. “

Mate I think that you have it, i ran cycle no 1 and i ran all the way through, i then ran it from no 3 and the timer stopped at the aparent heat cycle, i let it run for a while opened it an felt the water and it was cold, i tested this at a few different points by spinning the dial and it was always cold,

Now I guess where do i find the little red button?? is it underneath the machine ?
I tipped it over removed the black cover plate and can find the pump and heating stuff and thermostat, but could not find a little red button, are you able to advise where to look,
(i took a pic but could not post it here.)

cheers for your help so far,
    you are a legend.

i was checking other posts and i measured the thermostat (pink & brown wires)and got 4.2k ohms on the meter with and without wires connected, is this bad?
i also measured 29 ohms at the heater(at least i think its the heater)(purple & grey wires)

    hope this helps.

    Hi All,
I have a similar problem with my SMEG SA662X and wondered where I can find the “red button” , which Penguin45 had referred, to reset the thermostat as the dishwasher is now 11 yrs old and it’s difficult finding parts … My last resort before thinking about a replacement.
Is there a diagram where the button can be accessed?

    Nope, no diagrams.

It’s on the bottom of one of the thermostats in the base. So, you need to get the kickplate at the front off to get to it.

Thanks … I will give it a try … Btw …. Do you need to turn off the power to reset the thermostat?

Hi … For safety tried with the machine turned off but still no change … Should the dishwasher be turned ON for the reset button to be activated ?
