ParticipantHello everyone, new to this forum and my first post to go gentle on me 🙂
I purchased the SMEG SF4390VCX steam oven over a year ago as an ex display item. It has been sat installed in my new kitchen with power to it sat at the clock for a year and has never been used until tonight (long story but we have only just started to use the kitchen). I read the instructions which suggested running it at maximum temperature for 20mins so I set it at 250degC and it started to heat. Shortly after it tripped the circuit (32A RCBO) and now it will instantly trip the moment the isolation switch is turned on. I disconnected the oven and everything else works fine (there is also a microwave and a warming drawer off the same circuit).
I have checked the obvious like the supply cable being undamaged and the terminal block on the oven for any bad connections but all looks good.
Any suggestions of which part may be at fault?

Kenn is probably correct
remove the elements and go round to a freinds house. put the elements in his oven for a couple of hours at 200 degrees
then re install and hope they have dried outDave

ParticipantThanks Kenn and Dave
Yes for a good 6 months it would have been very cold with little insulation and no central heating!
I’ll give what you suggest a go as I have another old oven so I can dry the elements out in there
Thank you for your suggestions and fingers crossed

ParticipantWhile trying to diagnose which of the three elements could be the problem I disconnected one at a time and found the culprit to be the bottom element. I decided to run the oven at max temperature with the bottom element disconnected for a hour and now it’s reconnected and functioning!
Brilliant advice to heat it up to dry it out although I didn’t remove it 🙂
Hopefully it won’t fail when it cools down
thanks for the help
