Smeg SUK61CPX5 electric oven – centre fan with no heat

Hi, I have a Smeg SUK61CPX5 electric oven/hob which has developed a fault in the oven.
When the dial is on fan assist whole oven (2nd dial from left, last setting clockwise – image of fan inside a circle) the fan works but no heat is generated by the oven.
All other settings work as they should.
Can anyone give advice on how and where to test the oven?
Is it simple a heating element?

Yup, classic fan element failure.

Good news is it should be easy to put right, the fan element you will need is this one which is a stock line and dispatches same/next day.

They have made changes to these though so the fitting may not be exactly the same as the old one, but fits fine. Smeg keep changing the things for some reason beyond anyone’s comprehension.

Hi Keith, thanks for the advice…the electrics off and unplugged at the moment while investigating are the elements installed from inside the oven or do you remove the fan unit from the rear and assemble as a unit?

Hi Steve,

From the parts diagram I think you should be able to get to the fan element from the front without pulling the cooker out. You should have a removable back panel in the oven cavity that allows access.

Once you do that all should become obvious and a simple continuity test will prove the fan element faulty I expect.

That sounds like a plan! I’ll check for the internal plate and see if I can whip the element out and confirm with a continuity test…im guessing in some circumstances its probably easy to see the failure without having to check.
Once confirmed Ill follow the link youve provided and order one…lets hope I can repair it ready for the turkey!
