ParticipantMy SMEG SUK61MFX oven stopped working in the following way.
First when running at 200C there was a small bang and a burning plastic smell. The oven at this stage was still running. One minute later the 13A mains fuse blew. The burning plastic smell came from the mains junction block where arcing had burnt a hole though the plastic. The melting of the plastic was close to one connector (attached to the blue & white wires of the oven), which was charred and suspiciously loose. I managed (at least in the short term) to repair the mains junction block and make the connections firm and safe, and looked for other damage. All the elements are fine (tested with a megger), though I did find that the 100C thermal cut-out protection was no longer working. I replaced this with a comparable cut-out (10 A) bought from elsewhere.
There are now two new characteristics when I power up the oven:
(1) the fan that usually cools the oven after use is always on, and
(2) the timer comes up with flashing zeroes and the letter A (automatic?)I can stop the flashing zeroes and set the time, but I can’t get the timer back to normal operation – the “cooking time key” sign is always illuminated and using the instructions in the manual cannot get me out of this auto mode.
I can switch on the oven and all the elements work, and there is temperature control, but as yet I have found no way of switching off the cooling fan (except by switching off at mains).
Are characteristics (1) and (2) related ?
Any suggestions to getting back to normal operation would be great.

OK, first of all the 100C stat you replaced is the cooling fan switch on thermostat by the sounds of it, in which case when you tested it, it showed as being open circuit, which it’s meant to be until it reaches 100C then closes the contacts to switch the fan on, put the original back in, that should solve that one.
As far as the clock goes, if you’re certain it’s in auto mode (in which case the oven(s) wouldn’t work. Possible a faulty clock unit.
Power off first of course :plug:
