    Hello to all,
My customer has the aforementioned Smeg oven, I believe it’s 10+ years old. When turning the main selector switch on, the RCD trips. I tested the ring element (which is less than a year old) with a multimeter and it’s in good shape & shows continuity. I went on a fault-finding mission to see what the culprit could be – I removed the ring element completely & it still tripped the RCD when turning the selector switch. The fan motor & light housing both tested positively.
Can anyone recommend what else the problem could be? Could a faulty selector switch or thermostat cause the RCD to trip?
Due to the customer wanting to prepare dinner for his daughter I was unable to spend any more time on it.

Many thanks in advance for your advice.

testing the continuity of an element wont find this problem
the problem is one of the components has an earth fault
best way to find it is to disconnect each element in turn ( all of the wires). Make sure the wires cant touch anything or insulate them and turn on and see if it trips

if its not one of the elements try the fan motor. Its rare to cause it but i have had one
