ParticipantHi
We need a new electronic timer for our Smeg oven. If anyone can help us source one we would be very grateful.
We are not sure whether we need to use a genuine Smeg part or whether we can use a different company’s one (and whether this would be any cheaper).
Thank you all for your help.
Kind regards
Z

Timer unit is p/no 816290347. spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk for prices and ordering.
Brace yourself – it won’t be cheap and there will be little chance of an alternative component.

Hi Penguin45 …
… and thanks again for your prompt reply.
I have emailed the attached address asking for a price. I was wondering, are there any companies that sell spares they take from salvaged appliances? I know there are companies that do this for cars but not sure if anyone does this for home appliances.
If there are some, I would be really grateful if you could point me in the right direction.
Thanks again.

There are re-cycling centres around most parts of the country these days. Many local appliance businesses used to re-furbish/re-condition and re-cycle as well. Regretably the latter options have disappeared with the rise of cheap budget machines.
The problem you’ve got is volume. SMEG is just a tad above niche market sales in the UK, so there simply aren’t many about. Bit like owning a Ferrari – great when it’s working, but no cheap options.

Thank s for that Penguin45.
I guess we will think about buying a different brand next time. No technical support to customers, no internal diagrams for appliances, very little by way of troubleshooting and very expensive spare parts … what were we thinking when we bought it!
Anyways, at least it looked good when it was working 100 per cent. If the timer is too expensive I reckon we’ll buy one of those little egg ones … i think they cost a couple of quid.
Given that the timer has just gone, can we expect other things to follow or do Smeg appliances ordinarily last quite long (our Smeg dishwasher hasnt fared much better).
Thanks a lot.
