ParticipantHi chaps
Have a customer with a Smeg SUK62MFX5 oven that has never been cleaned since new. Cannot even see through the glass window let alone the oven light.
Lower main fan oven is not heating up, timer set on manual.
Fan runs, light on beside the switch lights up, element stone cold.
Back off and element not shorting to earth and resistance across terminals ok for a fan element. TOC ok at room temp on the back to element. Is it the main electronic timer with the relay contacts burnt out on the pcb or the thermostat? Am I looking in the right general area.
Thermostat does click off and on when turned. On this model can you get the front cover off to get to the timer and thermostat quickly or does the whole back and sides need to come off to release the switch panel?
Any help gratefully received
Chris

silly idea ? you did disconnect element to read resistance
i prefer to test live no room for error
if element ok you need to know if live or neutral missing could be a chaffed wire that has blown to earth and now is o/c
hope this helps

If the thermostat pilot light is coming on it will be a good sign that the thermostat is ok. It wont be the timer contacts as that would cut the fan as well. only thing left is the commutator, assuming the wiring is ok. Some SMeg dual fuels have a multi plug connecting the control panel to the terminal block and elements on the rear and these have been known to burn out. Stupid thing, but make sure you have checked to correct element as its all too easy to pull the wires off the grill element just above- done it myself!

Back again eastlmark & elctrofix.
Hands up doh, yes working on it last night round the back in the dark had taken off the wires from the grill element above as the vent directly below hides the fan element in her dark kitchen. ( one 60 watt bulb) Next time will bring in inspection lamp and not be so lazy.
3 coil element with the crazy bolts going through to the back so will have to take it apart and move everything yet again. That will teach me a lesson, covered in 5 years of black fat all from the cooker. Right, now to order the right element for cooker. Part No!
Thanks chaps
