Our double fan element oven has ceased to heat. Started a couple of months ago with very slow rise to set temp and now nothing at all. Rest of oven works OK. Is this simply that both elements have failed and need replacing? It’s only 2.5 years old!
    Thanks in advance,
    Pipbiker.

It certainly sounds like both have failed to be honest.

2.5 years is not unheard of for any fan element to fail, a lot less in many cases.

If you need a call, try repairs@ and the directories or pop up your postcode, someone here should be able to help with this for you 😀

    Dave.

I’ve got the same problem – everything else works fine, fans are spinning, but no heat on fan setting.

Anyone know if this a relatively straightforward job to swap them out for new ones. or should I be calling the experts?

    cheers

It’s a screwdriver job Biffa, the element is behind the oven rear panel. Obviously, the power MUST be off. Most SMEG elements are available through Shop@ on the site; if the one you want isn’t there email to spares@ukwhitegoods.com will soon get things moving.

If you are not confident in your abilities, check Repairs@ or Directories for a UKW repairer in your area.

Great – thanks a lot. I’ve just had a look and one of them has shattered, and the other one obviously is gone as well. I’ll order in a couple. You wouldn’t know how to get the bulb covers off would you? It sounds daft, but they won’t shift. Is there a trick to it?

Er, there’s only one element, Biffa – it just goes round several times……

If the glass is circular, it should unscrew anti-clockwise – they can bake on with the heat, so use force discretely! The square lens usually “flip” out from one end.

It may well have two Chris 😉

Some Smeg ranges have twin fan motors and elements in the oven (single cavity the full width of the appliance). Not a bad idea all in all 😀

Is it a range job then Dave? That would make sense.

    Yep, it’ll be a 90cm Range.

Most Smeg cooker models have the width as part of the model number and when they make a change to the design move it up by one, this would have been an SUK90 originally, a couple of subtle changes cosmetically and it becomes an SUK91 😉

Being small, I don’t get invited to too many range cookers……

Defo, buy two – do the job once and you’ll be ok for a year or two.

    Re: smeg suk91mfx fan elements

I would imagine 1 element went then the other.
They are both independent and not linked together.
Job can be done from front, so dont get a hernia pullin it out 🙂

    Regards
