Help! I have a Smeg range cooker, rings are gas and ovens and grills are electric. I put the main oven on to warm up, it had been on for about 5 mins when there was a very loud bang 😯 and the power went off. We checked the main fuse in the cellar which had blown so we replaced the fuse. Turned the power back on and the display came on for about 2 seconds and then the power went off again but with a burning electrical smell coming from it. We have no technical knowledge at all and have no idea what could be wrong. Does anybody have any ideas what could be wrong with it?

We tried to pull the oven out a little to see if we could see if there was another fuse around the back which could have blown but we were worried about pulling out the gas connection so we stopped. The oven is around 18 months old.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! 😉

It’s liable to be the mains block, switch assy or timer itself.

No. 3 is a killer on price as most Smeg timers are aroung the £100-120 mark. 🙁

On the upside the other two are pretty reasonable to replace in terms of price. However you will need the appliance out to look at them and if you’re even remotely twitchy about gas (it should be on a baynot hose so simple enough in some ways) or electricity I’d strongly advise the liberal use of a decent engineer. 😉
