ParticipantIn debate with Smeg. So this is in 2 Parts.
Fault occurs every 8 to 10 months. Cooking (not on Max).
Oven switches off. before cooking complete.
Pyro Light and Oven light Alternating with beeper sounding off.
Cooling Fan has switched on. When oven cools sufficiently, We can start over ..
Smeg did a complimentary call, Event happened 1st whilst under warranty, 2nd time just out of warranty. Engineer replaced control board.
3rd event . same fault. Engineer called and replaced Door lock micro Switch. Cost approx £200
4th Event about 10 months later. No Engineer visits. I’ll add more detail at the end of this.
I suspect possibly an iffy Oven Probe. Not the safety Stats as they appear to simply Prevent the whole thing not working.
I’ve considered ventilation , but as far as I can tell there’s plenty of that.
Anyone have any suggestions. PLEASE. I’m qualified sparks retired, ran my own Business for 30 yrs.
Chapter 2.
The debate. Local Smeg, insisting that the fault was fixed both times, so therefor its not under any further warranty, ie over 6 months.
Smeg techies told me that the Oven is supposed to do that, ie, it overheats and switches off. errrrr before the food is cooked?
Eventually, they conceded ,thus far,……. Book engineer to visit, do report, and we’ll consider if we can do this complimentary.
Fine, but local Smeg have to charge for the report, and Ive been quoted anything up to £200. and £12 for their letterhead. LOL.
And then of course I may have to pay another £200 for another maybe this’ll work repair.
As far as I can tell ( Consumer Protection ) Smeg Local are liable to sort this out. They have no paper work to agree with above actions (odd that)
So its my word against theirs.. Any legal beagles, or anyone with similar situation. Love to hear from you.

ParticipantI think whoever attended to repair, is liable for the repair tho, irrespective of age. Thanks Dave,

Moderatorwell it does sound like they fixed the fault otherwise it would have failed immediatly. the problem here sounds like its a re occurring problem
thats going to be hard to prove unless you can find other people with same problems

ParticipantThe fault only happens every few months. and once at a time. So they have tried 2 things, both on the basis of Lets try that and see.And the same fault has reoccurred. It is intermittent. Its very unlikely for the same fault to reoccur, if at least one of the attempts to repair had worked. It was not at fault at the time, the engineer called, and so wasn’t at fault at the time he left.
Incidentally it was a service and maintain business I ran, so I am probably aware more than most of the nightmare of intermittent faults. I will video it next time it happens. Mean time I’m happy to purchase any bits to try, my own repair , was hoping for some suggestions. Unfortunately Smeg is a closed book as far as looking for practical advice. Thanks anyway. Ken -
