ParticipantHi,
I have a SMEG UK STX2 dishwasher thats just started failing.
It drains, fills, then just before it finished silling starts to hum, a sort of low buzz. This continues for a few minutes post filling then it just stops completely.
Any ideas?
Is there a reset sequence for this device I can try?
Cheers
Pauk

It sounds as if the circulation motor has failed or the start capacitor for it (the latter the more likely).
This post should help:

Power off if checking please :zap: or you can find an engineer from the repairs@ link below if you’re unsure 🙂

Dave,
Thanks for the prompt response. Having a look underneath, there is one obvious capacitor next to what I assume is the circulation motor.
It’s some sort of dual capacitor that I dont remember from my electronics A Level!
It’s a 0.1uF dual, is this likely to be the beast?
A photo of the capacitor can be seen here:

Thanks

Hi
You piccy looks more like the mains filter, not the motor capacitor . Motor capacitor should have 3 wires which go direct to motor and is probably attached to the motor and 10uf

Yeah i worked that out too eventually, the grey cells are a little rusty!
This looks more like it.

It’s only got two wires though, any more clues?
Thanks

Yep, that’s the one which is why I gave the link to the previous post as it described the part and the link to our shop to purchase one if required 😉
Only two leads on this one 🙂
Dave.
