ParticipantHi, I have a Smeg UK80MFX 80cm duel-fuel cooker, which I have recently replaced the blown oven fan element (the curved one).
The problem that exists is that the oven heats up very slowly (30 mins to 150c) and only reaches 180c.
Is it possible that the element supplied by Smeg is faulty or is it more likely to be the thermostat or another part?
The reason I have doubts it’s the thermostat is that the thermostat light remains on when it reaches 180c, it just wont heat any further. If I move the switch below 180 the light then turns off (i.e. the thermostat is switching off). Does the thermostat control how hot the element gets or does it only control whether the element is on or off.
I would really appreciate some advice. Thanks Cameron.

Have you got an oven thermometer to test temp? Or is it cooler than it was?

I haven’t checked the temperature with a thermometer, but from my judgement the oven definitely doesn’t get anywhere near its maximum temperature of 250c and it takes over 20 mins to reach even 100c (according to the thermostat). It seems as though the element is not reaching its optimum temperature.
Cheers

I think you have the wrong element, can you let us know the part number (if you know it) ?
The Smeg part number is 806890217 (superseded from 806890122) which should be 2500/2600W rated.

Is the oven fan assisted? If so is the fan rotating?

I have always suspected it may be the element. I will check the receipt and part tonight after work.
Thanks

ParticipantThanks for your advice. I have fixed the problem and the oven works perfectly. Now all I need to do is fix the grill.

Grill element is part number 806890438 when you need it. About £38 from memeory. An email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will get things moving for you when you’re ready.

ParticipantHuman error I guess.
I had it on the wrong setting, which I am 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure I tested after installing the element. When I tested this setting it didn’t heat up so I assumed it was for defrosting.
Two nights ago when I checked the model number and power output I decided to check if the element was actually going red hot. This was a good opportunity as I had the fan / element cover off.
So I tried each setting on the selector switch and it worked on this setting.
After further investigation I discovered that the original setting I was using is for low intensity baking on the bottom shelf.
