Hi,
I inherited a SMEG UK80MFX1 which has been in good working order for over a year, but on a fuse flipping out which the cooker is plugged into whilst the fan oven was turned on, the fan oven no longer heats up. The fan seems to work fine, just no heat is produced. The base oven and grill heating element do still heat up.

but i cant see this item inside the cooker, so i assume i need to take a cover off inside to get to the element?

Please let me know if you think im thinking of the right thing and whether you sell the part im looking for/how difficult it is to fit and ill order?

Hi Matt,

I can’t guarantee that the element would solve the problem but it is, by far, the most likely culprit.

When the fan oven is on there’s several components energised and most of them could cause the RCD to trip.

It’s not that hard to replace so long as you’re reasonably handy.

However, the cheaper option would be this one:

You’d be best advised to check with Dave on spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk before ordering as these elements have been changed umpteen times by Smeg, different mounting and so on which wrecks our life at times as the replacement may not match exactly to the original. So, it often involves a bit of creativity to replace the fan elements.

Hi,
I purchased the element having confirmed with Dave, but it seems pretty much impossible to fit, with both the screws on the new part and existing fitted part seemingly impossible to undo with a pair of pliers as there is so little to grab hold of. Is this something they have intended? Is there some secret smeg tool to undo their screws that im not aware of?

Let me know if you think this is something best fit by a pro, and any recommendations in the south London area.

Yep, they can be fun indeed.

To be honest if the screws as are that badly stuck you may have to cut them to get them off. 😕

Then it’s either self-tappers to refit or a nut/bolt.

Some are bolts on the element with nuts in the rear cavity.the most common cause is corrosion though.dependent on your postcode I may be able to help.
