ParticipantHad this for about three years. Gone kaput…
Basically you switch a programme on and it is fine for about 15 minutes. Then it stops and dial just clicks steadily all the way round to end of progamme. Result? Unclean clothes and a drum full of water – it doesn’t drain out at all.
Dunno if it is related but the drying function has been rubbish for a while now. Takes 3 hours to dry one towel.
Have cleaned out drain pump thingy today and removed bit of zip stuck there but not made any difference.
Any thoughts?

No heat on wash would give you this fault. Model number would help……

Yep sorry, meant to put model in. It is a Smeg WDI 12.
Not sure about the ”No heat on wash” bit. The water is being heated. Can feel it through the glass. If that is what you meant?
Thanks for trying to help. 🙂

OK, in the absence of specific manufacturer info in this machine, we must assume that there is a “time out” problem. Something is not happening within the time allowed by the computer. The obvious ones are fill and heat, being quite early in the programme. You say it heats – the sensor may be faulty or out of circuit, so the temperature rise is not being detected. The machine may not be achieving the correct water level – faulty valve is possible, perhaps the machine is syphoning? Water level switch may be defective.
I have to say that this is a very complex appliance, using an electro-mechanical timer in conjunction with a computer board. If you can’t find anything obvious using a multimeter, you may be best advised to get pro help. It’s an expensive, quality appliance, so it’s definitely worth spending a bit on it.
Power off if you are going to investigate.

Righto, Mr Smeg man has just been here and reckons it is the control module that has gone. Does that sound plausible? Don’t want to fork out for something that isn’t correct.
Price he is quoting is £168.00 just to buy the part… 😯
Total cost including installation is £226.91. At that price I’m having serious doubts as to whether bother fixing it, or just to bin it… 👿

Shame, decent enough machine. Generally reliable – I think I’ve only ever fitted one of these boards and it was an expensive part then.
