I have had this machine for just over 2 years. It has always been quite loud during the spin cyle and vibrates quite a lot. Recently it started to make an extremely loud banging noise during the spin cycle. It turned out that one of the brackets inside the machine had broken. This was fixed, but now a different internal bracket has broken. This doesn’t seem very impressive given the age of the machine, and the fact that it is not used heavily (2 person household). It is not in warranty any more, but I feel the brackets must have been faulty (there is nothing that has obviously caused them to break). Both brackets are metal.

Has anyone else had similar problems with this model, or with other Smeg washing machines or washer dryers? Should I be contacting Smeg about this and asking them to pay for replacement parts? Or is this a waste of time?

Many thanks for any advice offered.

which brackets have broken? Are they the one which fit the machine to the cabinets, if so it would suggest that maybe it hasnt been installed very well 🙁

No, they are two brackets inside the machine mechanism, above the drum. Nothing to do with the kitchen cabinets. The machine was properly installed.

Struggling to make sense of this, Morag. Brackets – are these what the suspension springs attach to? Or the springs themselves? If they break, the drum will drop and make a helluva row…..

The SMEG machines are known to suffer from vibration problems – there is even an entire kit available for rebuilding the suspension for wooden floors, which doesn’t make any difference at all.

You need to give us some rather more exact info before we can realistically offer an opinion.

Re: Smeg WD16BA integrated washer dryer – problems

If anyone could point me to some sort of diagram/technical drawing of the inside of the machine I can explain better, but I’ve not been able to find one, and the manual does not cover this. The engineer who has looked at it has only referred to them as brackets, so I don’t know the correct technical term. Basically the parts in the section above the drum seem to be connected together with metal brackets, which are screwed on to the parts they connect. Two of theses brackets have basically snapped in the middle.

Don’t know if this makes it any clearer…

    Hi Morag,

I have just moved into a flat with the Smeg WD16BA Washer Dryer, i was wondering if you might be able to fill me in on the programme numbers/descriptions? Or point me in the direction of finding a manual online???
