I attended the washer dryer this afternoon with a description of drum not turning, Turned out that brushes were worn, replaced the brushes and it works. During the test run, when it spins, it rattles which suggests worn bearings.
I checked the drum for play – indeed there are some play on the drum so it points toward worn bearings.
I have not replaced bearings on smeg machine before, though I know the theory similar to LG direct drive. It has what it appears to be cast iron spider on the outside, so if I am to remove the pulley, and bash the shaft inside and undo the bolts on the outside to remove the spider without taking the whole drum out – will that work? Then remove the old bearings out of the spider and replace with new one then refit it? The theory sounds too simple but is that the case? How long will it take me to do it? And what sort of prices should I charge for this kind of work?
Also I looked up for bearings and it looks as if everyone are out of stock nor listed. (Qualtex, Connect and Masterpart) I do not want to frighten my client into buying a new machine at the cost of at least £500 for direct replacement just yet!
