ParticipantMy SMEG dishwasher has just started not releasing the tablet from the soap dispenser. No sign of any other malfunction, and the beast is clean etc. Any ideas on common causes of this problem, and, preferably, solutions?
Thanking you in anticipation
Bill

It’s quite likely to be the dispenser itself but without a model number ❗ it’s hard to check as Smeg made/make quite a few dishwashers 😉

I knew you’d ask that, Dave, and I have searched around but as yet can’t find a model number. All I can say is that it is a fitted unit and was installed in 2000. The handbook is clearly for this model (all the pictures look appropriate) but there is no model number (actually it doesn’t even say ‘smeg’ on the handbook – though there is ‘smeg’ and a logo on the front of the machine) 😕 . I’ll keep looking.

It should be around the door somewhere Bill.

Found it – the model is DWD 63.1 SS, and type 11029.
Thanks for your help – and patience!

OK, I should’ve asked this before really 😳
Is the dispenser lid open or closed when the cycle has finshed ?
If it’s open then it’s working electrically and something is either stopping the lid opening completely (a dishwasher freshener hung on the upper basket ?) or the tablets are poor and “sticking” inside the dispenser.
If it’s not opening at all then there’s an electrical fault which will either be the dispenser normally or possibly the PCB control unit, this may need checking by an engineer to be honest as it’s impossible to tell without the correct test equipment. Check Repairs@ if you should need one 🙂

The dispenser is closed – no sign of any degree of opening
Thanks again for the advice to date – looks like an expensive solution to a minor glitch. Such is life.
