ParticipantMy wife is complaining that the tumble dryer is making a nasty smell on the clothes. It’s a White Knight model she’s tried using those ‘Bounce’ smelly things but the smell is still there.
I thought that it may be the washing machine causing the problem, but if she drys the clothes outside they are ok.
Any ideas please?

Has all the fluff been cleared out the filters of the dryer?
It is possible that it is from the washing machine part of the process, as you don’t heat them when they’re hung out, the heat is causing them to smell a bit off. That is quite likely to be the case TBH.
If you underdose on detergent then you can get this happening and/or using the wrong cycle/s would cause it as the clothes wouldn’t be cleaned properly, i.e. not all sweat and skin grease removed.
Let me put it this way, there’s nothing in either the washing machine or the dryer that will cause a smell as such but what you put in them can cause it.

Is your dryer a vented one or a condenser?
I’m having the same problem with my white knight which is vented into a condenser box. (one that you fill with water). My towels smell terrible. I have cleaned all the filtersn etc and having no luck. I’m now considering buying a condenser dryer, but wondering if they are any good??November 19, 2008 at 1:36 pm #268765don

Hi claire
Vented is more reliable and cheaper to repair. A good read on tumble dryers with our recomendation can be found here in the advice and help section.

We are trying a few things such has a longer wash program. I have also been told that it may be because we us washing liquid detergent which is prone to cause smelly problems, is this correct?
