I guess this isn’t make & model specific – but do you have any hints & tips for stopping a dishwasher smelling ‘rank’ ( I can’t see any articles through the search function)?

If you accept that we try our best not to let plates covered in leftovers sit in the machine and give them a rinse beforehand are there any other tricks to stopping this smell in the first place & then dealing with when it happens?

What do you think of the propritetary dishwasher cleaning products we see advertised just now?

Are there any better than others?

    Thanks

I have, yes thanks. I guess that the smell could come from the filters then.

Looks like cleaning them is the next step. Will report back if that dosn’t cure the problem.

    Hi Dach,

The most common reason I find for this is backfilling which is explaine in this article but for sure it will be something external (or put in there) and not the dishwasher itself as such. So either foodstuffs or waste water coming back in is most likely your problem.

The Finish cleaner is pretty good to be fair and we sell the Electrolux one (here in the shop) which is good.

    Hope that helps.

Yes indeed, in fact it should be the first step in good dishwasher maintenance. 😉

Dishwashers clean dishes but not themselves unfortunately, often a good clean under the lip of the door (nearest the tub) is overlooked as well as all the stains and gunge that drips from up-turned cups in the top tray onto the door edges. Once the door is then shut all the coffee cup/tea cup drips are tranferred to the door seal and the gunge just procreates itself…. 😯

    What is that pong?????????? 😕
