I thought this was a good follow up to Andy Jones post in Walking away.

The self satisfied feeling when you mark one up against an obnoxious or know it all customer.

Got a call from a nursery owner a good few years ago regarding a Miele dishwasher. Mock plummy scouse accent with serious ‘i am’ attitude.
‘The dishwasher doesn’t work, can you bring a new one’
‘It’s a Miele, isn’t it worth checking it over first?Might be something simple’
‘It keeps bringing a yellow light up on the front which says to me it’s knackered, just bring a new one, I don’t want to waste time while you mess about with it for half an hour and tell me what I already know.’
So she ordered an Indesit dishwasher (cos she had one at home and knew they were good quality :rolls: and I took it along that afternoon.

Arrived at the nursery, pots piled up waiting and scouse accent (now lost the posh elements) shouts ‘about time, where’ve you been’ 👿
I started to install the Miele, turned off the cold supply, started to take off the hose and got full force mains supply peeing through the joint….the tap was off. So in the interest of good customer relations I exchanged said faulty Miele with the Indesit and have since had 8 years trouble free with it. 😉

Had a similar experience with a landlord, got the call to say w/m tripping electrics and a burning smell.
He did not want to waste time and wanted a recon machine that i done a lot of back then. I did suggest that i should look at the machine in case of some thing simple but was told just install the recon machine.
I did as requested and fitted my machine and took the problem machine away.
The problem w/m was a bosch with burned pin on the moulded plug top.
Put a new plug on it and away it went, so sold a £125.00 hotpoint and got a £400.00 Bosch into the bargain.

Re: Smugged up or getting one over on obnoxious customers

Got a call from a company running a power station who needed a commercial tumble dry.

Cant remember exact dimensions but u could easily fit in the drum. Was on 3 phase.

They wanted a quote, we didn’t do commercial stuff, but l thought couldn’t hurt. So told them on the phone l’d get a price.

So got off the phone, opened yellow pages (pre internet days) rang a local commercial company asked and got price, they would also deliver /install & set up.

Rang power station back, added £500 on top of price. They much to my surprise accepted and within a week had it installed and working.

Never seen it or got involved apart from 2 phone calls and 2 invoices.

    😆

Had to deliver a Beko freestanding cooker to a rental property this week. The landlord didn’t want to pay the installation fee so their own electrician was to install it. Later that day the electrician calls the shop to say that the cooker was faulty and we should deliver a new one, as the neutral clamp wouldn’t tighten on the cable end. Tracy tried to tell him it was more than likely he’d just slackened the clamp off too far to be told ‘ Listen love, I’ve been an electrician for 25 years, this cookers faulty’
I called the day after (landlord agreed to pay the fee this time) and guess what I found he’d done…..yep.
Tracy was in a mind to ring him back to say ‘Listen love, you know that faulty cooker you couldn’t install…’

Had a customer call me to a brand new Zanussi washing machine about two month’s ago that wouldn’t drain on first use!!. I walk into the kitchen to find they had Broken the door open and so had damaged the door, cabinet and door switch and when I saw it I asked what had they done and the guy started shouting and asking how the f**king ell was I meant to get my clothes out and to stop talking s**t to him and too just f**king sort it out now and that Zanussi are f**king shit. I asked him who had installed it and it was a friend who f**king know’s what he’s doing. Normally I wouldn’t stick around for a customer who was so aggressive but I knew it was going to be the sink spigot capped off and sure enough it was !!!! I showed him and his attitude changed in an instant I then told him the damage wasn’t covered on the g’tee for what he’d done and that he’d now also invalidated any g’tee on the machine and good luck getting it repaired and left the house very smug 8)
