So my Samsung washing machine threw up a 4e code the other night, no water fill detected. Pulled the filter, all good, plenty of pressure at the hose. I’ve tested the continuity across the twin solenoid fill valves and I’m not getting any continuity on either, is this normal for both to fail?? Both reading infinity??

Another thing is I’ve taken a punt and ordered a universal twin valve as a replacement for £6 instead of the £43 for the Samsung one. Is this going to be ok? It looks exactly the same?

    Re: Solenoid check

each coil will measure about 5000 ohms so if you are on the wrong scale on the meter it will look like its broken

the main problem with non gen valves will be if one of the original ones has a restricted flow. you can see this if you look where the water comes out of the valve. if its full bore its ok

its highly unlikely that both coils have failed. I might expect one to fail but not normally both. The only time this can happen is if the valves turn on but don’t turn off burning out the coils. This is highly unlikely in a modern machine that times out if its activated too long

    Cheers Dave,

Just checked the resistance on 20k setting and one is reading 4.2 the other one is infinity, so looks like one has gone maybe??

Here’s a pic of the inside, is this a restricted flow? Looks like…

    Re: Solenoid check

flow restrictions are on the output side of the valve if it has any. the input is a flow restrictor for very high pressure

    Thanks for your help Dave

I’ve attached another pic showing the outlets, both are the same. Doesn’t look like there’s any restrictions there, what you think?

    looks ok

    generic valve should work fine
