ParticipantI have recieved an email from Simon James at Apple electrics trying to sell Baumatic Appliances. It is apparent from a post in the forum that someone else has also received this.
The only place I think my email address is published is with the WTA. If this is the case, I don’t think members should be using other members email addresses to blanket email them with cold calling offers. This was the exact reason I ditched the FSB.
Is it possible that he has taken an email sent to members and hit “reply to all”.
What do others think?

If he’d have used ‘Reply to all’, I’d have had 2 emails (One to WTA address, and one to BA Address). I haven’t had any…
Maybe he’s just getting peoples email addresses from their profiles one by one?

KeymasterYes I think he’s been doing just that Ade and he’s not on. Notice I nor the other mods have had a mail.

Funnily enough I got 2 emails. The only other time this used to happen was when Amica sent out an email because they had me listed twice (don’t know why), one with Barrie@munrosdomestics and the other with Barry@munrosdomestics.
I will check when I am back in the shop to check the addresses they were sent to.
It would seem a lot of work to go trailing through everyone’s profile.

Is there a way of stopping ‘Reply to All’ when you send an group email? I’ve just had a look at settings in Outlook, nothing obvious?

Internet noobs. 😉
Or, as some say, internet luddites. 😆
Ok, so in Outpuke you have to create a “group”. This group should contain all the emails that you are sending to and that you don’t want Tom Cobbly and all having access to.
You do this when sending to a group of people that are on a mailing list that you don’t want replies going to “all” from. Otherwise you’ve just handed your mailing list to, well anyone that has the way with all to use it or access it from that group mailing.
It should look as if it’s gone to a group like, “members@whitegoodstradeassociation.org” and not to individual mail addresses. You need to protect that as well to stop tw4ts from mailing that address and reaching all, so it has to be an internal group and not accessible to the outside world, so off server.
There’s several very good reasons for doing this. Not least of which is security in that your members emails are not divulged to all and sundry but also that nobody knows who you are mailing, how many and so on.
Don’t do that. Sh1t like this happens.

I’ve already got the group, when I send, it says ‘To: WTA Members’.
I keep coming back to the fact that he couldn’t have ‘Replied to All’ as I’d have had 2 emails myself…

KeymasterThen it’s been harvested elsewhere then.
Were the two mails to different addresses?

I’d have had one to WTA address, and my BA Address is in the group…
He must have selected from peoples profiles… And as you said, left out Admin & Mods…
