ParticipantHI I GOT THE NO DRINKING WATER PROBLEM AND HAD AN ENGINEER OUT WHO REPLACED MY EVAPORATOR COVER, 4 DAYS LATER THE WATER TANK HAD FROZEN AGAIN, ANOTHER ENGINEER CAME OUT AND SAID THIS WAS DUE TO FRIDGE NOT BEING THOROUGHLY DEFROSTED WHEN NEW COVER WAS FITTED (FRIDGE HAD BEEN OFF FOR 24 HOURS PREVIOUSLY AS REQUESTED BY THEM) 10 DAYS LATER I HAD THE NOISE OF THE FAN CATCHING ON BUILT UP ICE AGAIN ALTHOUGH THE WATER WAS STILL WORKING AND HAS NOT STOPPED WORKING SINCE. I CALLED THE ENGINEERS AGAIN AND THEY TOLD ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY BECAUSE THERE WAS OBVIOUSLY ANOTHER FAULT BUT THIS WOULD BE TRIAL AND ERROR AS IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO SAY WHAT THE FAULT WAS AND EACH VISIT WOULD BE CHARGED FOR. AFTER LOOKING ON HERE I STRIPPED THE COVER OUT (AND REPAIRED IT WHERE HE HAD DAMAGED THE POLYSTYRENE)AND DEFROSTED THE FRIDGE MYSELF. ALL THE SPARES ON HERE SEEM TO BE SIMPLY PLUG IN IS THAT CORRECT ? IF SO CAN ANYONE GUIDE ME AS TO THE BEST ROUTE TO TAKE OR IS THERE AN ENGINEER IN MY AREA (ST3) WHO CAN MAKE ONE VISIT AND REPAIR THE BL##DY THING WITHOUT MULTIPLE CALLOUT CHARGES ANY INFO OR HELP MUCH APPRECIATED.

You raise a number of issues which perhaps we should address. Firstly is the appliance still under the Samsung 2 year guarantee? Secondly, was it an authorised Samsung repairer that carried out the repair? Once these are cleared up we can sort out your problem but surfice to say if the repair had been carried out correctly you should not have a further payable repair. The main causes of these problems are usually – either or both of the two heaters are not working, the thermal fuse is blown, the defrost sensor has failed or it has a got an evaporator cover fault. We all make mistakes but these all should have been checked at the time of the engineer visit. If you press and hold the two top facia buttons in, the facia digits will start to flash (keep the buttons held in) the facia goes blank and you should if there is a fault see part of a number digit stay alight on either the fridge or freezer display. If you post which one it is then we can take you further.

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY THE ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS ARE THE FRIDGE IS OUT OF WARRANTY IT IS 32 MONTHS OLD. THE ENGINEER WAS NOT SAMSUNG APPROVED BUT WHEN I CALLED HE DID SAY “OH THAT IS A COMMON PROBLEM , I KNOW WHAT IT IS” AND GAVE ME AN APPOINTMENT AND TOLD ME TO DEFROST FOR 24 HRS PRIOR TO HIS VISIT. HE CAME ON TIME AND IN LESS THAN THIRTY MINUTES HAD CHANGED THE EVAP COVER AND LEFT I DID NOT SEE HIM TEST ANY OTHER PARTS. I AM NOT SAYING HE MADE A MISTAKE THE WATER DISPENSER NOW WORKS FINE AND I AM SURE THAT FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ON THIS SITE THAT THE EVAP COVER WAS INDEED FAULTY AND I AM PREPARED TO PAY IF THERE IS A NEW OR FURTHER PROBLEM. WHAT I DO NOT LIKE IS THAT HE IS SAYING THAT THE PROCESS IS NOW TRIAL AND ERROR AND I WILL HAVE TO PAY EACH TIME HE CHANGES SOMETHING UNTIL THE FAULT IS CURED I FEEL AS I SAID IN MY ORIGINAL POST THAT ALL THE SPARES SEEM TO BE PLUG IN SO I COULD DO THAT MYSELF. I WOULD EXPECT A PROPER ENGINEER (SAMSUNG APPROVED ? MY FAULT I KNOW) TO BE ABLE TO CARRY OUT TESTS ON THE LIKELY COMPONENTS TO DETERMINE WHICH ARE FAULTY WHICH IS WHAT YOU SAY IN YOUR REPLY. I HAVE ALREADY MANAGED TO DETERMINE THAT I THINK MY PROBLEM IS IN THE DEFROST SYSTEM. I HAVE THE CENTRE HORIZONTAL BAR ON THE FAR RIGHT HAND DIGIT LIT WHEN I DO THE TWO BUTTON TEST IF YOU HAVE AN ENGINEER IN MY AREA WHO CAN FIX IT IN ONE VISIT I WILL BE VERY HAPPY TO LET YOU DO THE JOB.

The defrost components should be tested with a multimeter whilst evaporator cover is off. Then fault is proven with no doubt. Use Repairs@ link on lhs of page for one of our engineers.

Hi
The fault that you have indecated would be either the defrost heater(mst likely) or themal fuse at your appliances age.
The new heater comes complete with a new defrost sensor and thermal fuse.
