ParticipantModel is :-
Mod A2
Type 2DA
CE 49AT2735The Oven cooling fan no longer operates. I have replaced the fan but it still does not come on. This is making the control surfaces too hot so neither oven can be used.
I cannot find the part or part number. I did think it was a simple themostat attached to the oven body but cannot locate one and now think it maybe the small circuit board at the bottom of the oven. Or is it linked to the two ove thermostatic switches?
Many thanks

Probably just the cooling fan stat, this one:

Well that’s what I thought but there is no stat of this sort, and I have traced every wire. There are the two oven stats on each side but no separate cooling fan stat. The wires from the fan go to a small circuit board near the base of the cooker where the power lead enters. The leads from this board then go off to the two interior oven stats.
I bought part 818731036 THERMOSTAT TANGENTIAL 100°C ready to fit but cannot find it anywhere.

Are you sure on the model number as Smeg shows no electronic fan control on an A2?

Yep sure of the model, I took a picture of the model plate

The part, which I am led to believe is obsolete is this control board:-

There is some decay to the resistor which may be the issue.

So can I get the part or is there a workaround?
Many thanks all.

How bizarre! There again…
The board is shown on one of the version drawings but, no part number or info on it at all.
I’ll need to dig into that one.

Thanks Kwatt, I have spoken with UK Whitegoods, who have been very helpful, they were aware of the board but that the part is no longer available. They seemed to think there may be a workaround.
I may have to contact Smeg for details but they will want their own engineer, with associated costs, to check it out and affect a fix.
Last resort would be to rig up a manual fan switch!

Smeg have replied, being very helpful!!!
Hello
I am sorry but the part is no longer available with no alternative options. The oven was built around 1999 so most parts are now obsolete.Regards
Smeg-Service Team
I would argue with them as other than that board every part is still available and the A2 design has changed little, but there seems little point. I don’t want to scrap what is otherwise a working cooker.March 2, 2017 at 11:17 am #445763kwatt

It is obsolete with no known work round for it either I’m afraid.
A friendly Smeg service agent gave me the info on it. 😉
Were it me, I’d wire up the fan to come on with the main oven fan or, rewire it to use one of the usual fan control stats however doing that is beyond the remit of what we can advise as, someone could blow stuff up doing that if they don’t know what they’re about or, electrocute themselves.
But if you’re competent enough you’ll see that yourself and be able to work out what I’m on about from the above enough to figure it out.

Thank you for your help, I’ll consider my options 😉 Was thinking about wiring it to the large oven light, that way it would run with that oven and could also be left on after the oven is no longer heating by just turning the control to interior light only.
I’ll see what I can rig up that would also be safe.
The rest of the Oven works well, which is quite surprising for a Smeg, so not keen on decommissioning yet.
Thanks again

Just keep in mind that those cooling fans will usually run on after you switch off to stop stuff from getting burnt.
