Ok I’m coming from Hotpoint hell here, my WD865A has just had its 6th heater box fail (its 3 years old this month), so I have decided to get rid of it (it will be on ebay starting at 99p for collection only, if your after a mental pos that blows heater boxes constantly).

Looking for something reliable (is a reliable washer dryer a contradiction in terms or have I just been tainted by this Hotpoint carp?), looking at about the £400 – £500 mark, have been looking at AEG & Bosch.

Are there any other makes to consider, also which models should I be looking at?

I have two young kids so can’t really afford to be with a machine for very long.

I must say its a great feeling to be getting rid of my Hotpoint, I decided it wasent worth getting stress over an appliance but I will make sure nobody I know will ever by a Indesit compnay product 😆

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards

    Peter

to be honest and every guy on here will tell you, if you can get away with 2 separates do it!
Its rare to find any make of washer dryer that is perfect!

    Hi,

Kelland is totally correct, I don’t think I’ve ever seen any of the engineers recommend a washer dryer as they are loathsome, inefficient and unreliable things despite the propaganda.

Have a read at this article for more info

But with two young kids you want a washer dryer like you want a hole in the head as they are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard for family use IMO. Not much better for anything else either truth be told.

The only washer dryer that will deal with that is the Miele and it’s about a grand, so it ain’t cheap and you will still have to live with a lot of the compromises that come with a washer dryer.

Can you tell we don’t like or rate them? 😉

Re: Spec me a new washer dryer

If it has to be a washer dryer, and budget is an issue, the Lux group washer dryers do at least have a dryer which works reasonably well. They are not particulary robust and the electronics can be tetchy to sort if they go wrong – it’ll be finished in under 5 years with family use, but it’s probably the best of a thoroughly bad bunch at the low/mid price sector.

We don’t like washer dryers for a reason……….

Thanks for all the help guys, I live in a small 2 bed house and there is no storage spare space at all,

Can you not find room for a little 3KG dryewr anywhere,in a cupboard/on a worktop?

Is that a condenser? What make model, I have a really small worktop space above the washer on a worktop at the moment this may be some kind of option.

My WD865A was repaired today and I am really going to get shot of it, the engineer suggested bosch lol, but I would consider options for anything seperate providing I can fit it in somewhere.

    Hi

Sorry to say all the compact 3kg dryers are vented machines. However if you have worktop space Zanussi TC180 compact condenser dryer may fit the bill it takes a 3.4 kg load and is only 42 cm deep, details here if you want to have a gander. I think you could also wall mount IIRC but a phone call to them might be the answer.

I have the same problem with space so was interested to see the mention of putting a dryer in a cupboard. Is this really feasible? I have a large built-in wardrobe in the bedroom which has enough space for one, but wouldn’t there be problems with ventilation?

Re: Spec me a new washer dryer

You would have to keep the door open and run a vent pipe from the dryer,I know its a compromise but then so is a washer dryer(I hate them too)

Zanussi TC180 is a condenser. You still need to leave the wardrobe door open though.

Re: Spec me a new washer dryer

Thanks for your replies. I can’t run a pipe easily as the wardrobe is on the opposite wall to the window. The idea of a condenser seems better, and I don’t mind leaving the door open whilst it is in use, but would the clothes hanging in the wardrobe be affected?
