The Zanussi has gone kaput and I can’t figure out how to get to the brushes which I guess is the problem 🙁 I think what killed it was the girls’ horse blankets. Any suggestions for a good long lasting heavy duty machine would be most appreciated.

    Thanks

    Re: Spin Dryers

If you are talking about a tumble dryer, not a spin dryer then it is almost certain that it does not have any brushes in it. Virually all Tumble dryers use brushless induction motors.

    Re: Spin Dryers

The Creda “Debonair” Spin Drier used to be quite good.

It appears to be still available, and in two forms: auto-pump, or gravity-drain.

I always favoured pumped spin-driers, of any make. It was too easy to forget to put a basin under the spout on the gravity-drain models! :rolls:

    Re: Spin Dryers

Thanks for the replies. It is a spin dryer and I just assumed it would have brushes. They don’t seem so popular nowadays but they are useful for blankets, jumpers etc.

    Re: Spin Dryers

If it’s a proper Zanussi spin dryer, it will have an induction motor, which uses a capacitor to get the motor running. If you can hear a humming noise, but no motor action the capacitor will almost certainly have failed.

    Re: Spin Dryers

Creda spin dryers are also capacitor run induction motors.

    Re: Spin Dryers

Doddle……….. We will need either the model number of your spinner, or, you take it to bits and find the capacitor an d tell us the “uF” rating on it. Difficult to know exactly the prices, but typically £10-£15.

    Plug out, please………

Well it is a Zanussi Type: ZEW 0004 Mod: SD 2801/A hope that is enough.

    Thanks again.

Except……… The capacitor isn’t in the parts listing. 99.9{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure it had one. You’ll have to find it inside and tell us the rating.

    Power off, of course.

    Re: Spin Dryers

Nothing that I would recognise as a capacitor 🙁 which as it hums exactly as you describe is a bit depressing.

    Thanks for your help.

It’s the small silver tube that’s fixed on the side of the motor! 😉

    Re: Spin Dryers

spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will be able to supply a suitable capacitor, if you take on board the comments above and find the rating for us.
