ParticipantWe have a Bosch Excell 1400 washing machine. A while ago the brushes needed replacing as motor stopped working and I fitted new ones from BSH.
This may be coincidence or not, but we’re sure the spin cycle doesn’t seem very effective now. The machine has a adjustable spin speed of 600 to 1400 rpm. But if I spin say a wet towel on 1400 it is still so wet that I can just squeeze it and water runs out.
When I put on a drain cycle the machine empties ok so I think the pump is fine.
If I adjust spin speed down it seems to go slower, so the control has some effect. But my impression is that the spin speeds are just not what they were ?
Are there any causes for this I could check or any test I can carry out to diagnose this problem ?

ParticipantThe appliance has an out of balance system in it and is designed to stop the machine from spinning at full speed if it feels that the load is too lop-sided – On some occasions it won’t allow it to spin at all –
Are you finding the slow spin is occurring when you have big , heavy , absorbent loads in i.e bath towels or bath mats or if the load is small ?
Its important to make sure the appliance has a full load which should be of a good mix of small and large items .
I’d check the loads first and see if there is apattern to when the slow spin speeds occur.

We’ve had the machine for several years and my wife only used to use upto about 1200rpm as the washing was dry enough at that speed, but now even on 1400 it still seems quite wet.

Hi, just wondering if this was resolved as we are in the same position with our Bosch Exxcel 1400.

In my many long years of experience I always get an increase in poor spin complaints at this time of year. Whilst some are obviously faulty a significant number have nothing whatsoever wrong with them. Some people often say “its getting on a bit, it seems to be slowing down’ .
Come the spring & summer and the complaints reduce dramatically.
One reason for this is that in winter the clothes are being rinsed in very cold, near freezing water and they are not in fact wetter but a darned sight colder. They will also take longer to dry in the tumble dryer as well.

If you can wring the clothes out by hand and extract some water quite easily, I’d say that wasn’t down to being cold ? 🙁January 11, 2008 at 7:36 pm #235328Twoten

That makes you sound very old Jim! Good point though.
You say “when I put on a drain cycle the machine empties ok so I think the pump is fine”, have you checked the filter.
If not it’s still worth a look.January 12, 2008 at 12:32 am #235329Penguin45

You might like to ponder this.
I have had a spate fo Bosch motors over the last 18 months, which have required replacement brushes. This is a maintenance job and not a fault. However, about 25{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} have failed after approximately 6 months. Due to the cost of replacement motors, most of these machine have been written off.
Set your machine to the Spin setting – the display should come up with 9 or 10 minutes. After one minute of pumping, the motor should start. Stay and watch………. The motor progressively winds itself up, and one of two things can happen if the motor is faulty. One is that the motor accelerates into spin; as the speed mounts, the inlet valves start to pulse and allow water into the drum. The clothes are getting wet as they are spun. In the second instance, the motor starts the spin sequence. As the speed mounts, you can hear a “crackling” noise – eventually, the motor will drop out of spin, the display drops to 1 minute and the sequence ends. This will normally happen in the first few minutes of the spin sequence, so again – no duration, everything is soggy.
Either way, the motor is goosed.
Observe and report back.

Just to add………….
When you say ” Spin a wet towel on 1400″, are you just using the spin setting and not a wash cycle? If so that setting is a reduced spin speed 😉Greg

Well, the motor is goosed.
