Hi, I have a customer with a 1400 spin, whirlpool washer (service code 857981415200) that squeeks when slowing down from a spin. My thoughts were the belt but a new belt made no difference. I don’t think its the motor, so the only thing left is a squeeking water seal. The bearings are totally quiet. It’s a split plastic drum btw.

My question is; will a 481253058142 shaft seal solve the problem? I don’t want to strip the machine down to find I cant replace just the seal.

The bearings are silly prices, as is the rear tub assembly.

Any advice will be much appreciated

Can you check that service number Bob, it doesn’t exist according to SIOS.

I have done quite a few of these. The problem appears to be the shaft seal has no grease on it.
If you catch the problem early enough it can be fixed by injecting grease into the bearing hub via the drain hole at the back of the tub behind the pulley.
I couldn’t find a suitable grease gun so I made my own from an empty mastic cartridge filled with grease and then pumped the hub full of it.
It doesn’t always work as it depends on how bad it has got but its worth a try as it is a lot easier than getting the tub out.
