A few weeks ago the wife spotted that the ice cream had melted. We emptied the freezer into a spare one and I defrosted the Samsung and tried it again. Set for -20 and all seemed well but last week we noticed that the bread was not fully frozen. Checking with an infa red thermometer it’s only managing between -8 to -15 at best. The fridge seems to be working fine holding between 0 – 5.

The compressor seems fine and the main fan is working. I have taken the plastic covers off the inside of the freezer and the evaporator has a light frosting on it but nothing servere. I have not seen the evaporator fan running yet.

    Any ideas on the issue.

    Thanks in advance. Dan

Think I might have answered my own problem. I assumed the evaporator fan only ran when the heater was on but looking into it I think I am right in saying that it should be running whenever the compressor is running.

The blades turn free so it’s not seized. How do I check if it’s the fan that’s faulty with a multimeter. I have one but only ever use it for checking continuity.

This morning I took the fridge to pieces to see if the fans were the same so I could test it in the freezer. It looks like that one is dead as well. There was a lot of ice behind the evaporator panel. it looks a bit ropey behind the fridge side. Some mound and rust on the tray etc.

Is it likely that both fans could have given up the ghost, not sure on the history of the thing as we were given it by a friend of the family but the date stamped on the fans is 2001 so they are fairly old. I don’t want to throw £150 at it and find the whole thing is on its last legs.

    Cheers

    Dan
