Participantthinking of stocking and becoming a service engineer for statesman appliances, they have been around for a while now and the new catalogue seems quite good which includes a hot and cold fill washing machine. has anyone had any dealings with them and if so is it as good as it sounds.
i like the idea of selling a new machine with a 2 year guarantee and i get to look after it for the customer.
any feed back to help me make the decision would be great cheers.April 12, 2010 at 2:56 pm #317712don

Hi bzz67
They sent us down a washing machine a couple of years ago to have a look at with a view to stocking them. Didn`t have to look far before we said thanks but no thanks, not for us.
Didn`t care too much for the rep at the time, very pushy almost aggressive in trying to secure a sale.
I think user gandh1 stocks them IIRC he may be able to offer some positives 😉

Repair rates are ok as they don’t expect you to do bearing work under warranty and payment is prompt.
The washers and dishwashers are Vestel and easy to repair.
I don’t have a shop and I sold six last month just from the brochure. 😀

Edit. Forgot to say spares are supplied FOC so no worries about bills/credits/returns etc.

ideal for the elder generation of customer who just cant be doing with lots of dials, and hard working for basic family use.
positives:
=2x ex-employees own them, and 2x of my immediate family have them
=more reliable than hp/zanussi, in fact *touch wood* d/w have been ridiculously reliable so far – done over 150 odd now and not had to been to single one either under or out of guarantee.
=ideal tenant appliances
=supplied to independants only – so little competition
=hot&cold fill 1200 sells itself to many elder customer with wood burners who dont want just cold fill, and the eco-warriors who have solar heating/wind farms in the garden
=when selling them a washer make sure they keep the brochure. if you drop in the fact you can supply all machines in it, once they buy the washer they will call you back to buy a f/f and d/w off you too.
=people on the phone are nice as pie
=never met the rep myself but i would say the sales office are more eager to get your order rather than pushy. will ring you weekly in case you have forgotton to order anything. i personally like this as were so busy!
=extra long drain hoses make for easy installations where you need it to reach that bit further than a meter, without any hassle of waste extensions.
=you can keep your customer for life due to viable post guarantee repairs:
split tub washers
affordable next working day del on spares
excellent tech back up (if not calling during their lunchbreak!)
easy to work on
= so far average bearing life on the 1000/5kg washer is about 5 years based on about 5-6 loads a week.negatives:
=not the cheapest on the market to buy trade, but dont be tempted to cut your margin because of this, people will pay a fair price for it, if you can justify it ti them *like i just did above*
=o/o/b system on w/m seems to be more sensitive than other brands, but no issue if you always advise customer what to do before you leave
=on the w/m if your careless enough to not check that the prog selector knob’s line is pointing exactly to the programme you want, you can occasionally select the wrong program
=inlet hoses are bit of a pain, they tighten down further on the tap and that can prevent full opening, so requiring modifying the tap handle, and the long than average solid “neck” on the hose can make installation difficult if pipework is thoughtlessly positioned, and waste elbows are not supplied with machine!April 13, 2010 at 10:56 pm #317715Steven

Totally agree with you on the negatives.
Not a bad washer but over priced for what it is.
I dont agree with selling to the elderly, I have had a few problems with recalls to tell them they have to wash more than just there smalls, or single items, the dial is not exactly spot on which can cause some confusion. Even when you have told them the OOB sensitive :rolls:
The spin only option is misleading will only spin at 600 or 800 on both models, real pain in the arse if you want that extra spin and expect it to spin at 1200.The built in stuff ovens etc not too bad.
Refrigeration basic and over priced.
I believe they have a new range of washers coming out shortly, havent seen them yet, but being produced in far east factory (so say one of the electrolux factories) dont know what the quality like.
If your interested then personally I would go for the Amica. 😉
IMO Washers much better quality, higher spec lower price around £40-£50 cheaper than the statesmen selling price higher so more profit for you.
still have 2 year warranty and have full range of other products in the range.
The only down side (not with the product it self) is many of the suppliers always run out of stock. :rolls:Steven

my jury is still out on the amicas, until they have actually proved themselves. I like them, which is why we run both as an option, and plenty of polish workers round here instantly recognise the brand, and buy them without any need for sales advice, but the fit and finish on the outgoing tacticals just hasnt always felt quite as substantial enough to last quite as many years as some people tell me they should.
that said, im more than happy to give simons enthusiasm for them the benefit of the doubt, but i do notice we have had a higher {e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of terminal (i.e exchangeable under warranty) failures on amicas than on the statesman. that also includes 3x f.o.i, compared to 2x f.o.i statesman washer, even tho we have sold 5x times as many statesmans!

I have had no install failures on either (Touch wood) not really superstitious.
But i have had more queries related to the statesman and having had to go back and run through everything until it sinks in (thick customers), and have also had to exchange appliances as customers can get so sh**ty because the machine doesnt do what its suppose to do despite reading the brochure, this cost money and the machines are too pricy to absorb these incidents 😳
On the Amica I have only had two board failures within a year.
In the main through power surges.
Cannot fault the back up from Simon it has been good.
One email and he had sent me the board direct form GDHA and I have gone and fitted it 10 min job. Keeps the customer happy at the end of the day thats what matters as the margin is better you can afford the odd one.
I do sell both but favor the Amica anyday 😉At the end of the day as long as we can service what we sell then it doesnt really matter which one.
Make money on the sale and the repair. HAPPY DAYS!! -
