I’ve been trying to establish what the latest ratio is between whitegoods sold and extended warranties taken out? Also what appliances are the most requested for taking out extended warranties (i.e more washers than fridges etc?) …and finally, what the ‘price range’ quotient is?

I realise that perhaps only insurance underwriters will have the answers I need? And this has been my problem in seeking out this information as they are very tight lipped on the subject. :rolls:

But hey ho! here goes anyway, hope you can help? 😉

Mooted 60{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} conversion ratio from sale to warranty purchase from some of the multiples.

More than that I don’t know.

    60{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}….really?

It seems extended warranties are on the up then? 5 years ago the figure I had was 42{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}?

In general, very few people now take out extended warranties on white goods, most peoples philosophy now is that if it breaks in 12 months, they’ll buy a new one.

I tend to find that older people take them more, and on items such as freezers/fridges mainly.

That was on figures from the DTI Martin, how accurate they are or how they breakdown I really don’t know. But if you look up the DTI investigation into extended warranties you’ll find a wealth of information in there, I’m sure they produced a freely available report on the results.
