Stoves 600DWT unresponsive

Greetings all. First time poster, but I’m hoping somebody can help me out. Sorry if this gets a bit long, but I want to give as much information as possible.

I’ve got a Stoves 600DWT, which I’m led to believe also masquerades as a Belling 604, New World DW60, Prima LXP600 and many more.

The machine starting throwing an E4 code, which means the flood float switch in the bottom has detected leakage.

I took the case off, and sure enough, the hose up to the upper tray was hanging loose and must have been spilling water into the base of the case.

I’ve replaced the hose and fitted a new hose clamp, and checked the operation of the flood float switch. I’ve obviously cleared any flood water that was remaining in the tray.

With the case back on, my problem is that the machine is unresponsive to the programme button. It powers up fine.

I’ve discovered that it has some kind of diagnostic mode, accessed by holding down the timer button whilst powering the machine on. This cycles through each mode of operation, and they all seem to work. It fills, sprays and drains as it should.

From what I’ve read, problems such as this are often related to the door switch, though I’ve verified that that is operating through the diagnostic mode.

My question, finally, is this: does the machine need to be reset following an error (like a car’s engine control unit), and if so, what’s the procedure?

One other factor is that it’s showing a salt warning indicator light. We’ve got super soft water in Liverpool, so we’re not concerned about that and we think the warning light has been on a while, but we’re not 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure. My understanding is that the salt warning light WON’T prevent operation, but does anyone know different?

I realise that this machine is pretty long in the tooth now, and some may say I’m lucky that it’s still alive. It’s given good service though, and I’m reluctant to replace it two weeks before Christmas whilst it’s all so very close to working.

If anyone can shine any light on this for me I’d be truly grateful. I’m an IT technician by profession, and white goods are far outside my usual sphere.

Make sure you wait for a while after closing door, it can take up to 20secs brfore it starts up & kicks into life, check darin pump is working, it should be the first thing you hear. If the drain pump had been running continuoulsy because base was flooded it may have burn’t out.

Thanks for the reply. The problem is that it’s unresponsive to the programme button, meaning that you can’t actually set the appliance to run a programme. Without knowing that it needs to start I wouldn’t think it would do anything!

The drain pump is definitely working, it’s draining water like a champ in the diagnostic cycle. Thanks for the input though, I appreciate it.

It’s a common issue when internals become damp/wet, you loose neutral return which looks out the appliance and this is indicated by no response to program button being pressed. Give the appliance time to dry out, if problems still present, your heater maybe faulty, that gives same symptoms.
The salt light is just an indicator showing your out of salt. It can be ignored although running a dishwasher without salt will give poor wash results in time, don’t listen to the uneducated, soft water means nothing, it still contains lime, just in smaller quantities, using no salt is going to bring you issues. Fact.

Ah, that’s really interesting Lee, thanks. I might have a gentle waft with a hairdryer to help things along!

I’ve put some salt in it now, so thanks for the tip! I’ll report back and let you know how I get on.
