stoves fan oven problem

My Stoves range fan oven cut out tripping the sockets, and after resetting them the oven would not heat up, although the fan did work. I was told this was a common problem of the element failing. I changed the element yesterday, but now when I turn the oven on to the minimum setting which is displayed on the knob as a star and a tear/rain drop, the fan and oven light come on as normal and the oven begins to gently warm up BUT as soon as I try to turn the oven up beyond the minimum setting, the fan stops the light goes out,just like when you turn the knob to off, but the element does get hotter, glowing red.
Does anyone know what is wrong? I am beginning to think I possibly reconnected a wire wrongly, but I cannot understand why the element,fan and light all work – just not normally! 😳
