Is it a common fault on stoves gas hobs for the gas taps to seize up over time?

My wife has owned an ovencleaning business for 4 years. A couple of weeks after one of her employees cleaned a hob, a customer had complained a tap has seized. This is not a normal occurance after a clean and the hob was working when the employee tested the appliance before leaving the customer.

The customer has got a gas engineer going to look at the tap and I would like to be armed with some information as I know nothing about gas.

    Thanks,
    Cras.

    it is becoming more common

for years, they were never an issue

i try taking the knob off and spraying a little bit of silicone grease down the shaft first and foremost.. quite often that cures it

easy to change to be fair, but you have to be gas safe registered

With Stoves hobs no, I worked for them for over 5 years and very rarely needed to re-grease gas taps on hobs.
